From industry-academia collaboration to the orchestration of knowledge — its future

What was discussed
The session discussed how to expand industry-academia collaboration from combinations of individual researchers and companies to relationships in which multiple parties bring their knowledge together. The view was presented that neither corporate requests nor research seeds are sufficiently articulated, and that the more concrete they become through dialogue, the more fields of expertise are needed. In addition to the problem that even within a university research information cannot be grasped as a whole, the problem that purposes fade as they pass through layers of decision-making was discussed. The role of a university forming a team to set rules for distributing benefits among multiple organizations was also considered.
About this session
Can industry-academia collaboration move a step beyond matching researchers and companies one to one, and become an occasion for orchestrating knowledge toward creating industries? Practitioners on the front line, driving new initiatives on the university side, have gathered around this question. How can universities realise industry-academia collaboration that contributes to creating industries? We open a space for dialogue on that possibility.
